Communist Party of India General Secretary A B Bardhan on Thursday said that Bahujan Samaj Party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will be the prime minister if the United Progressive Alliance government loses the vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha on July 22.
So are the Left Parties trying to built a third front with Mayawati as thier PM candidate? So what’s the differnce between Mayawati and BJP? One highlight the cast issue and the other hinduism.
God knows what CPIM and other left parties want?

She will never be PM for the simple reason that she is a dalit!!! She may be given assurances of the same but Advani and his brood of pandits will never let her... besides she sucks as a leader so she shouldnt be PM anyway....

The Communists have effectively checked L.K.Adwani from emerging as the prime ministerial candidate of a united opposition by projecting Mayawati’s name publicly.

That may be true but they ended up making a complete ass of themselves in the process.

This bunch of directionless comrades who refuse to grow beyond the cold war era deserve to be kept in the museums for the children to see and be amused.

If the opposition has indeed initiated the idea of positioning Mayawati as the next Head of Government, any alliance led by the Congress Party is here to stay for ages. Why is suddenly all this publicity that makes an alternative so scary?

I read a little about Mayawati. She has tone down her slogans from ”more offensive slogans like tilak tarajo aur talwaar, inko maro joote char (the signs of the upper castes, let’s beat them down with our shoes)” to one that invites everyone including the upper classes ”Come, ride the elephant”. A BBC report says ”In the latest elections, she fielded more Muslim and upper-caste candidates than ever before to try to win more votes”. She talks about she now talks about a policy for poverty-based reservations rather than caste-based reservations, which is rare in a world of caste based politics. She has opted for an image makes over, pays attention to her looks... Her capacity to refine is impressive.
